The Samba is about as low-key as a famous sneaker gets: leather upper, suede T-toe, thin gum sole. The adidas Rhinestone Samba keeps every part of that shape and then covers it in crystal detailing, so the shoe you already know catches the light every time you take a step. It's the Samba for nights out, birthdays and any outfit that wants the shoes to carry the detail. Here are both colorways we carry, how they fit and how I'd wear them.
What is the adidas Rhinestone Samba?
It's the Samba OG, the shoe that started as an indoor soccer trainer around 1949 to 1950, with rhinestones layered across the upper. Nothing about the silhouette changes. You still get the slim, low profile, the T-toe construction, the Samba name on the lateral side and the Trefoil on the tongue, all sitting on a rubber outsole. What changes is the surface. Instead of plain leather and suede, the upper sparkles, which turns a daily basic into a statement shoe without making it any bulkier.
If you're deciding between a Samba and a Gazelle, the Samba is the narrower, more structured shoe with the thinner sole, while the Gazelle feels softer and roomier. That slim shape is part of why the rhinestones work here: there's less shoe, so the sparkle reads as detail rather than costume.
The two Rhinestone Samba colorways
Silver/Black (IH9055)
The Silver/Black Rhinestone Samba is the brighter of the two. The upper is covered in all-over silver rhinestone detailing, set against black 3-Stripes and a black heel tab over a gum sole. The build pairs leather and synthetic materials with suede-inspired textures and classic flat panel stitching, with a synthetic sockliner inside. The black stripes keep it grounded, so it still looks like a Samba from across the room before the sparkle kicks in up close.
Black (IH9052)
The darker take, the Black Rhinestone Samba, puts a Core Black base under the rhinestone detailing. It has a suede T-toe, serrated 3-Stripes and gold Samba lettering on the side for a small contrast against the black. A textile lining and insole sit over the rubber outsole. If you like the idea of a sparkly sneaker but want it a little quieter, this is the one. It reads as a black Samba first and a rhinestone shoe second.
How does the Rhinestone Samba fit?
It fits like any other Samba, because underneath the crystals that's what it is. The Samba runs slightly long and a little narrow, so most people with slim or average feet go down half a size. If your feet are wider, stay true to size, because sizing down takes away width you actually need. I wear a women's 8.5 with an average-to-slightly-narrow foot, and half a size down is my pick in a Samba. It cleans up the slightly long toe and gives a snug, secure fit without pinching. Our women's Samba sizing guide goes through it in more detail.
How to style a Rhinestone Samba
The rule is simple: let the shoes be the only sparkle in the outfit. Both pairs work with black or mid-wash denim, black straight-leg trousers, or a plain white tee, the kind of outfit where the footwear is meant to carry the detail. The Silver/Black pair is the one I'd wear with lighter denim and a crisp white top. The Black pair goes with black on black, a slip skirt or tailored trousers when you want something dressier than a regular sneaker.
Skip the sequined top and the statement jewelry when you're wearing these. One shiny element looks intentional. Three starts to look like a theme. If you like the metallic direction more broadly, our silver and gold metallic sneakers guide covers how to wear shine and texture day to day.
Caring for rhinestone sneakers
Keep it gentle. Spot clean with a soft, damp cloth and let them air dry. Don't put them in the washing machine, and avoid scrubbing hard around the detailing. A little care between wears keeps them looking the way they did out of the box.
