Back to School Shoe Deals: How to Shop Smart in 2026
Back-to-school is the one stretch of the year when everyone's shopping for shoes at once — parents, students buying for themselves, and every teacher replacing a dead pair. It's also when the worst deals get the loudest marketing.
Here's how to tell the difference. Start with the Deals collection if you want to browse first.
A discount off an inflated price isn't a deal
The most common back-to-school trick is a shoe that exists only to be marked down — built to a price, sold at a "discount" that was always the plan. You can spot it because the model doesn't exist outside sale season.
The real test is whether you'd recognize the shoe at full price in March. A Samba is a Samba year-round. That's what makes a markdown on it mean something.

Buy the second-best colorway
The single most effective way to spend less without buying a worse shoe. Triple-white and triple-black versions of any model sell out first and hold their price longest. The identical shoe with a contrast panel moves for less.
This works at every age. For kids, the VL Court Bold in Teal/Pink (JQ4482) and Blue/Pink (JQ1712) are the deepest-stocked shoes we have. For adults, the Grey Campus 00s (JR2463) does the same job as the neutral colorways people fight over.
Kids and grade school

College and adults
If you're buying for yourself, the calculation is different: you're not going to outgrow it, so buy for mileage instead of headroom.
The Campus 00s is the value pick for walking — more midsole than a Samba, suede that handles weather. For something lighter, the White Adizero Evo SL (JH6206) has the deepest run we carry, and the Black Ultradream DNA (JS0315) is the cushioned choice if you're standing rather than sitting.
When should you buy?
Earlier than you think, but not because prices rise — because size runs thin out. Middle sizes go first, and by mid-August you're choosing from what's left rather than what you wanted.
Buying for someone still growing? Measure their foot the week you order rather than trusting last spring's size.
Don't buy two cheap pairs instead of one good one
Two pairs that fall apart in October cost more than one that lasts the year, and whoever's wearing them ends up in whichever is less broken. Buy one pair with a real rubber outsole and a suede or leather upper.
The exception is a genuine second use — a required PE shoe, or a gym pair kept separate from a daily pair. Then two makes sense and the second can be the cheaper one.
