Brand Spotlight: Nike
Nike is the brand that needs no introduction — but there's a lot worth knowing behind the Swoosh. It's the deepest sneaker catalog on the planet, and it happens to be a local story for us, too. Here's the background and a look at what we carry.
An Oregon company that changed footwear
Nike began in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports, founded by University of Oregon runner Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman. It was renamed Nike in 1971, the year the Swoosh first appeared, and Bowerman's famous waffle-iron experiment gave early running shoes their grippy outsole. The company is still headquartered just outside Portland — a fitting neighbor for a Portland-based shop like ours.
The icons
A handful of Nike silhouettes have crossed fully into everyday wardrobes. The Air Force 1, introduced in 1982, is the all-time staple — the Triple White AF1 is the version most people picture, and we also stock floral and 'Roses' takes for something different. The Dunk, born in 1985 as a college basketball shoe, became one of the most collected sneakers of the modern era; we carry low Dunks including the Lisa Leslie 'Sparks' Dunk Low.
Performance, not just lifestyle
Nike still leads on the technical side. Our lineup includes running in the Vomero family — known for soft, high-stack cushioning — plus basketball in the Zoom LeBron NXXT Gen, court shoes, and apparel like the Tech Fleece Windrunner hoodie. Browse it all in the Nike collection.
Do Nikes run true to size?
It depends on the model, which is the honest answer for a catalog this big. Air Force 1s tend to run a touch large, so many people go down a half size. Dunks are generally true to size. Running models like the Vomero usually fit true but are worth trying with your normal running-shoe size in mind. When in doubt, check the specific product page — we note fit details where they matter.
How Nike fits next to the rest
Nike's icon-driven approach makes an interesting contrast with the terrace-heritage world of adidas and the comfort-first reputation of New Balance. If you're shopping across brands, our adidas vs adidas Originals spotlight and our Vans spotlight round out the picture on the lifestyle-sneaker side.
