The adidas x Pixar Toy Story Samba arrives as a tribute to Woody, built around a deep blue denim upper that mirrors his jeans and offset with warm tan suede overlays and yellow details pulled from his sheriff uniform. It takes one of adidas's oldest silhouettes and gives it a character-specific treatment without losing what makes a Samba recognizable in the first place. The Samba itself began life as an indoor soccer training shoe in the late 1940s, and the gum sole and T-toe remain from that original purpose.
This pair swaps the standard leather construction for denim and textured suede, giving it a softer and more casual feel than a traditional Samba. A gold sheriff's badge lace dubrae sits over the laces, while the plaid lining references Woody's shirt and the paisley heel tab pulls from his bandana. Underfoot, the classic gum rubber outsole keeps the low, planted ride that has defined the model for decades.
If you're deciding between this and a Handball Spezial, the Samba is the narrower and more structured of the two. The Spezial offers a roomier fit and softer feel, while the Samba keeps the sharper shape and thinner sole that define the terrace category.
The denim-and-gum combination works especially well with raw denim, fatigues, or washed workwear pieces. The yellow accents do most of the talking without pushing the shoe into costume territory.
Listed in US Men's sizing. The Samba runs slightly long and narrow with an almond-shaped toe — most customers size down a half size. Wider feet generally do better staying true to size as the shoe breaks in over time.
