The SL 72 OG was introduced for the 1972 Olympic year as one of Adidas' earliest lightweight running shoes. This edition trades the model's usual nylon-and-suede palette for an allover leopard-print pony-hair upper, giving the streamlined silhouette a very different character while preserving the low-profile shape and vintage running proportions that define the SL 72 line.
The upper combines pony-hair textile with black leather 3-Stripes and heel-tab detailing. Suede overlays reinforce the toe and eyestay, while the lightweight EVA midsole and ripple-pattern rubber outsole stay true to the original design. The contrast between the textured leopard upper and the black leather accents gives the shoe a sharper look than a standard SL 72 release.
If you're choosing between this and a Samba, the difference comes down to purpose and shape. The Samba is a structured indoor-soccer silhouette with a flatter stance, while the SL 72 retains its running heritage with a lighter build, raised heel, and more athletic profile.
