Do adidas Sambas run true to size?
For most people, the Samba OG fits true to length but feels narrow, especially through the toe box and across the midfoot. The upper is a low-cut leather build with a suede T-toe overlay and a thin gum rubber sole, so there's very little internal volume compared to a chunkier trainer. If you have a standard or narrow foot, your usual adidas size will generally be right. The shoe may feel snug out of the box, but the leather and suede give a little as they break in.
The common move you'll read about online is sizing down half a size. That advice exists because the Samba can run slightly long, and a snugger fit looks cleaner with the low profile. We'd frame it differently: size down half a size only if you have a narrow foot or you like a tighter fit. If your feet are average width, stay true to size and let them break in.
What if I have wide feet?
This is the most important caveat. The Samba is a narrow shoe by design, so if you have wide feet, do not size down — and you may even prefer going up a half size for toe-box room. The flat, hard sole and minimal padding mean a too-tight Samba won't "stretch to fit" the way a knit sneaker might. Wide-footed shoppers consistently report the most comfort staying true to size or going up, never down. Width matters more here than length.

The Sambae is the platform version. It sits taller on a sculpted midsole, which changes the look more than the length, but the raised platform can feel different underfoot — expect a stiffer ride and plan for the same true-to-size approach. The Samba XLG goes the other direction with an oversized, chunkier midsole and a slightly bulkier upper, so it tends to feel a bit roomier than the OG. There's also the Samba Jane, a women's-specific take. When in doubt, treat the OG fit as your baseline and adjust for the platform or chunkier builds.
How to lock in your size
Start with your true adidas size. Go down a half size only if your feet are narrow or you want a tighter look. Go true-to-size or up a half if your feet are wide.
