The Samba XLG is one of the most-searched Sambas going, and it's easy to see why: it's the Samba you know, lifted onto a chunky platform. If you've wondered whether the XLG is just a taller Samba or something genuinely different, here's the breakdown. The full range is in the Sambas collection.
What makes the XLG an XLG?
Everything above the sole is pure Samba — the full-grain leather upper, the suede T-toe, the three stripes. The change is all underfoot: the XLG swaps the OG's flat, thin sole for a thick full-length EVA midsole and a bigger sidewall, giving you real lift, a bolder stance, and far more cushioning than the classic. Add a padded tongue and you've got a Samba built for height and comfort rather than a low, minimal profile.
Samba XLG vs Samba OG
Same face, different feet. The OG is flat, close to the ground, and understated; the XLG is elevated, chunkier, and more of a statement. If you like the terrace-classic look but find the OG a little plain or a little flat underfoot, the XLG is the answer. If you want the pure original, stick with the OG — we compare all of them in Samba versions explained.
How does the XLG fit?
Take your true size in the XLG. The taller EVA platform changes how the shoe feels underfoot, not how long it runs, so there's no half-size adjustment to make here. That is worth spelling out because the flat OG is different: the Samba last is slightly long and narrow, so on the OG standard and narrow feet should go down half a size, wide feet should stay true, and nobody should size up. Our do Sambas run true to size guide walks through that in full.
Styling the platform
The added height makes the XLG a natural with wider and longer hems — straight-leg denim, cargos, midi skirts — where the platform peeks out. For color, the Samba colorways guide still applies.
