The Air Max Sunder returns in Saturn Gold with the same zip-shrouded silhouette that first appeared in 1999, now in a saturated yellow finish offset by black tooling and small hits of Diffused Blue at the heel. The smooth neoprene upper gives the colorway a softer look than a leather or mesh build would, while the dark mudguard keeps it grounded rather than reading as a monochrome shoe. The Sunder was one of Nike's more experimental late-'90s Air Max designs and remains one of the few silhouettes from that era that still looks slightly ahead of itself today.
The upper combines stretchy neoprene with a zip closure that hides the lacing system beneath the shroud for the model's distinctive profile. Reflective panels sit over the black synthetic mudguard, while unzipping the upper reveals the hidden "6453" detail — the numbers that spell N-I-K-E on a telephone keypad. Underfoot, visible Max Air cushioning in the heel works alongside Nike Air in the forefoot, sitting inside a foam midsole with a rubber outsole underneath for everyday wear.
The Saturn Gold release leans into the futuristic side of the Sunder rather than its running origins. The yellow neoprene, black mudguard and muted blue accents give it the feel of an Alpha Project-era Nike concept shoe that somehow made it into production and stayed there for more than two decades.
