Is the Evo SL EXO just a different design of the Evo SL?
No. This is the question worth settling first: the EXO is a genuinely different build, not just a new colorway. "EXO" stands for exoskeleton, and that's the change — the upper. The EXO swaps the standard Evo SL's soft mesh for a woven exoskeleton cage with external TPU overlays across the midfoot. Everything underfoot is the same: the full-length Lightstrike Pro foam and the rocker geometry carry over. So you're getting the same ride, with a more locked-down, structured upper.
Why the EXO exists
The most common complaint about the standard Evo SL is that the upper feels loose or flexible at speed. The EXO's cage directly fixes that — tighter midfoot lockdown with no real weight penalty. If you loved the original's relaxed, free forefoot, stick with the standard Evo SL; if you wanted it to hold your foot better when you push the pace, the EXO is the answer.
Does the Evo SL EXO run true to size?
It tracks the standard Evo SL: true to size for narrow-to-average feet, with a slightly tapered, racer-inspired toe box. Many runners with wider feet (myself included) go up half a size for toe room on longer runs. The caged upper is a touch more structured than the plain mesh, so if you're truly between sizes and want comfort over a locked race fit, half up is the safer lean.
